A couple of weeks ago my cousin Kayla sent me a message on Facebook and asked me if I had ever made a Poodle Skirt. I don’t recall ever making a poodle skirt, but I do know they are basically a circle skirt and I HAVE made circle skirts before.
Kayla is actually my second cousin, not that it matters, but her mom, Sara, and I are first cousins on our fathers side. (My dad is the oldest of three boys, her dad is the youngest.) And that side of my family all live in Las Vegas, which means I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like. I wish I was closer to them, but my situation is what it is and I try not to focus on what I don’t have, instead I like to focus on doing the best I can to stay connected – Facebook has been a huge blessing in that respect.
So when Kayla reached out to me and asked me to make her a Poodle skirt I was overcome with joy! She said she was going to wear it to her school’s Sadie’s Dance – which means I was going to make the best damn poodle skirt EVER!!!
I L-O-V-E-D making Kayla’s skirt! It’s not every day I get to sew something girly. I told Kayla her ‘payment’ was that she had to take lots of pictures of her wearing the skirt and she made payment in full! How pretty is this girl?!?
In Sara’s e-mail she said Kayla loved her skirt and that it made her whole night that much more special. I don’t know about you, but that brings a tear to my eye. I’m just so happy that Kayla asked me to make it for her. There’s already talk of a prom dress! How lucky am I?
This picture is of Kayla and her cousin Johnny. Johnny is my cousin Michelle’s son. Michelle and Sara are sisters….. in case you were keeping track. Maybe next week I’ll cover all the “Nick” in our family.
